WWE Armageddon 2000
I don't really have a reason per say for reviewing this one. Just came to mind the other day when coming up with PPV's go watch, and I seem to remember this one being pretty solid. Title matches, a Last Man Standing Match, the 6-man Cell Match... So let's see what we got.
We get a nice little video package to start out the show, standard for PPVs at the time. We're live from the Jefferson Civic Center in Birmingham, Alabama, J.R. and the King on commentary as always. We begin hyping the Cell match as it hangs ominously over the ring, and as commentary talk about how career shortening the match is, we cut to Foley on Heat earlier, where he says he'll resign as commissioner if someone is seriously injured in this match.
Vince arrives at the arena in his limo, the Stooges arrive to greet him. They tell him the Cell is hanging over the ring, but Vince seems to have an idea to stop it.
Time to get to some action.
6-Person Intergender Elimination Tag Team Match: Hardy Boyz & Lita vs The Radicalz (Perry Saturn, Eddie Guerrero & Dean Malenko) (w/ Terri Runnels)
We get a short build up, where Malenko beat Lita to win a date with Lita, reluctantly of course. They go to dinner, and ge to the hotel room before the Hardys crash the party. Match starts with a brawl as Malenko goes after Lita before Matt cuts him off. Double team suplex by Matt and Jeff on Saturn and a double team on Guerrero. Lita goes to hit a moonsault before Maleno is pulled out, but Jeff follows with a plancha. Matt and Saturn start the match out properly in the ring.
Saturn gets the early advantage before tagging in Eddie and continues the offense. Matt launches him into the corner and follows with a back suplex before tagging in Jeff. He gets some offense in for a bit but Eddie gets back in it. He goes for a Hurricanrana from the top but Eddie stops. Radicalz attempt to get involved, but Lita hits Eddie with a Twist of Fate off the distraction, allowing Jeff to follow with the Swanton Bomb to eliminate Eddie from the match.
Saturn is in next and Jeff hits Whisper in the Wind quickly, before Malenko is in next. Hardys hit him with Poetry in Motion and try to do the same to Saturn, but catches Jeff to deliver a Death Valley Driver, and Jeff is out of the match.
Matt is in now and attempts a sunset flip for a 2 count.Terri catches Matt's foot off the rebound for Saturn to capitalize. Matt goes for the Twist but Saturn catches him for a bridging German for a 2 count. He counters a head scissors into a slam, followed by a second rope leg drop, pin broken up by Malenko. After tossing Malenko out, he hits a Twist on Saturn to knock him out of the match.
Terri is in the ring and slaps Matt, before Lita spears her to the mat. Malenko sneaks in behind to knock Matt into Lita, sending her out of the ring, and he eliminates Matt with a quick roll up.
Lita obviously distressed and worried. She lands a nice headscissor take down and tries to end it with a Victory Roll for a 2 count. Lita goes up top and hits a moonsault on a standing Malenko for another 2 count. A DDT by Lita before she goes up top again before getting knocked by Maleko. He hits a superplex, goes for a pin but pulls her off the mat before the 3. A series of short-arm clotheslines as he continues toying with her, then a backbreaker. Another pin before he pulls her off the mat once more. He finishes it off with a Texas Cloverleaf, making Lita tap and get the win for the Radicalz in 8:08.
He keeps the hold up a few more moments before posing in the corner. He tosses her out of the ring as the Hardys come out to chase him off, ref checking on Lita as Hardys help her to her feet. Michael Cole is out to give her props for a hard fought match and she says she knows she can beat Malenko before she's helped to the back.
Cut to backstage as Lilian Garcia approaches WWF Champ Angle about his match tonight. He barks at her for interrupting his training. He says he's beaten people of multiple nationalities to win his medals, and says his opponents in the Cell are nothing. He says he shouldn't have to compete in a barbaric match in front of "inbred hicks". He calls Mick a sadist, says he's gonna win this match, shower, have milk and get the hell out of there before going back to training.
We get a short replay of Foley and HHH's Cell match from earlier in the year, showing Foley being sent through the roof and through the ring.
Time for our next match.
WWF European Championship: William Regal (c) vs Hardcore Holly
We get a promo from Regal where he says they'll all cheer for hometown boy Hardcore Holly, but that he's the one who cares about them, and says he's about to enrich their lives. He says they should use a handkerchief so they don't look like slobs. He says that wearing overalls are fine, but they should wash them once a week. He says its fine to love your farm animals, but they should stop loving them saying its disgusting. He's about to get to a fourth thing before Holly interrupts.
Holly wastes no time going after Regal, but he quickly retreats out of the ring. Regal pulls him out of the ring as they trades legts and rights. Holly goes to whip him into the ringpost but Regal counters. Holly follows with a back suplex as they enter the ring, then a near fall.
Holly pulls him near the corner and tries for... something but Regal gets a foot up and catches him in the face. A few shots in the corner before Regal hoists him onto the top rope, following with a superplex, then another near fall. He tries a couple more times in frustration.
Regal works the back in a nice Bow and Arrow hold, but Regal releases the hold. Holly tries to mount an offense, Regal catches him off a rebound for what looks like a tiger suplex, Holly reverses into a suplex of his own, followed by another near fall.
Holly catches him with a couple of suplexes before climbing up top again, hitting a nice leg drop for another near fall.
Holly goes to leapfrog but Regal slams him to the mat. He goes for a Regal Stretch but Holly is too close to the ropes and forces a break. Regal goes for a neckbreaker but Holly slips out with a stiff clothesline. As the ref goes to check on Regal, Raven appears out of nowhere to hit Holly with his DDT, helping Regal retain the European Championship in 5:01.
We get a replay as Regal leaves with the championship, waving to the crowd. We get a replay from Smackdown this week, where Angle turns on Rikishi and HHH following an alliance they had. Kevin Kelly is backstage with Rikishi, saying he isn't worried about HHH turning on him. Saying he's been waiting for his shot at the WWF Title and says anyone who gets in his way will find out what and who he's willing to sacrifice to get it.
Chyna vs Val Venis of Right to Censor (w/ Ivory)
We see a replay from Monday's Raw of an altercation between Venis, Ivory and herself, which led to Venis challenging her to this match.
Chyna wastes no time exiting the ring and going after Venis and Ivory before the match starts, whipping him into the steps before rolling him in the ring to begin the match.
Chyna starts with a series of forearms, whipping him into the ropes into a drop toe hold. Chyna climbs on top with blows to the back of the head. Referee pulls her off before she takes him to the corner to continue the offense. Val attempts a clothesline, but she counters with a DDT for a near fall.
Val gets the advantage with some knees to the gut, followed by a clothesline for a near fall of his own, before tossing her out and distracting the ref. Ivory gets her own shots in before Val rolls Chyna back in the ring.
Val hits a tiger suplex for another near fall. Chyna tries to get back in with some forearms but a poke to the eye and a slam stops her. He tries to follow with an elbow drop but she rolls, allowing her to get back into it. Nice neckbreaker by Chyna, then another near fall.
Chyna keeps the momentum a while before Val catches her with a powerslam off the ropes. He tries to follow with a Money Shot but Chyna moves out of the way, followed by another near fall.
Chyna slams him down, then goes off the ropes before Ivory trips her up. Chyna gets pissed and chases her around the ring before being led back in, allowing Val to catch her with a Fisherman Suplex to pick up the victory in 5:03.
Chyna grabs Ivory by the hair and gets her in the ring, attempting to hit a powerbomb but Val planting her with a Spinning Sitout Powerbomb before RTC leave.
We get a replay of Mick hitting HHH with the flaming barbed wire 2x4 on top of the Cell. Cut to Stephanie pulling Vince into a side room and she convinces Vince to try and stop Hell in a Cell from taking place.
We cut to earlier in the day where Taker is standing with Kevin Kelly in the Cell, arena empty, where he talks about his history and experience in this match, intercut with footage of what he did to Shawn Michaels and Mick Foley in their respective matches.
We go back to commentary talking about how sick and sadistic Taker is before Vince and the Stooges make their way to the ring. At this point, Vince has already asked for his divorce from Linda, which happened earlier that week on Smackdown, which would kickstart the drugged up Linda/Trish affair storyline. He has a cane for some reason. He says he meant every word he said to Linda. He also says he meant it when he showed genuine concern for the superstars competing in the Cell tonight, but it's fallen on deaf ears. Fans start an asshole chant. Vince says he's here with his heart in his hand, not as Vince McMahon, the chairman and billionare, but as Vince, the concerned and compassionate humanitarian, that no one is buying (save for Lawler). He pleads with the fans to join him in protest, to open their hearts, and come forward to show their support, to send a message to Foley and to the world that they won't condone or encourage or allow this match to happen. Vince asks them to contemplate the results of this match, then asks for 5 seconds of silence (to a chorus of boos), and asks those who agree to stand up and join him. He gets pissed when people don't stand. He says all the carnage tonight will not only be on Foley's conscious but also that of the fans, to which the fans cheer, before Vince and co. leave the ring.
We get a hype package for Jericho and Kane, which started when Jericho spilled coffee on Kane by accident backstage. Kane says he gets more pissed the more fans cheer for Jericho, and we get footage of the two taking it to each other with weapons and backstage attacks in the build up to this match.
Last Man Standing Match: Kane vs Chris Jericho
Kane wastes no time as he meets Chris on the aisleway and the match is on. They quickly fight their way to the back. It takes several moments before a camera finally catches up, as Kane tryies to throw an equipment case at Jericho. He tries to hit him with a shovel before Jericho throws sawdust in Kane's face. They quickly make their way back into the arena.
Some more brawling in the aisle way, before Kane tries to lawn dart Jericho into the ring post, but he slips free, slamming Kane face first into the ring steps. In the ring, Jericho hits a spinning back elbow from the top before landing blows and forearms to the face, then clothesline Kane back outside. He tries for a dive off the apron, but catches him and slams him back first into the post a couple times, before planting him with a running powerslam. Teddy Long as the ref starts the first count of the match but Jericho gets up at 5.
Kane continues the assault sending him into the steps, pummeling him some more before sending him back in the ring. Kane keeps up the offense, connecting with a backbreaker before sending him the corner, burying his shoulder into Jericho's midsection before whipping him into the opposite corner. More right hands as he keeps Jericho grounded. Kane continues to pummel Jericho in the corner before hip tossing him across the ring. Kane traps Jericho in a Hangman's Hold (?), Jericho defenseless. For some reason, Teddy starts to raise Jericho's arm 3 times with no response, and forces Kane to release, before he starts another count, Jericho seemingly knocked out. Count reaches 7 as Jericho starts to stand but Kane interrupts, .Kane attempts an elbow drop but Jericho manages to get in some offense, but gets the knees from Kane as he attempts a Lionsault.
Kane goes up top and connects with a flying clothesline, as Teddy begins another count. Jericho is back up 6 and Kane continues the attack with right hands. Another count begins and Jericho is back up at 5.
Jericho wants more and Kane grabs him by the throat, and gets planted by a Chokeslam. Another count starts and Jericho is up again just barely before the 10 count. Kane exits the ring and grabs a chair in frustration, sending it into Jericho's ribs then back. Kane drops the chair and goes to deliver a Tombstone but Chris slips out and hits a low blow, before planting Kane with a DDT. Both men down as Teddy starts another count.
Chris is back up at 6, and he hits Kane square in the face with the chair, before another count starts up. Kane is back up at 6 before Jericho is back on the offense with right hands, knocking Kane down with a forearm. He climbs up top and takes him down with a missile dropkick, before picking Kane back up, hitting a bulldog. He places the chair on Kane's chest before successfully hitting a Lionsault on top of it, hurting himself in the process. Both are down again as the count starts.
Jericho is up at 8, and Kane sits up just before the 10 count.Chris eats a big boot before being tossed to the outside with a military press. Kane follows soon after and doesn't let up, pulling Jericho back near the entrance, tossing him into the guard rails as they head toward the wrecked cars. Kane goes to chokeslam Jericho on the concrete but Jericho bulldogs him off an amp through a table, for another count to start. Jericho is up at 3. Jericho gets smart, and pushes over barrels that were set up and buries Kane under them. Teddy makes the 10 count and Jericho wins the match in 16:49.
We get a replay before cutting backstage to Debra (who I think was his assistant) running into Coach, who comes to interview Foley, asking if he has second thoughts about booking the Cell match. He says Vince is dead wrong, that people wanna see the match, and says he definitely has second and third and fourth thoughts about this match, but that it will take place no matter what.
We cut to WWF New York with an appearance by HBK. J.R. asks for his thoughts on tonight's Cell match, and he talks about how unpredictable this match is, especially when you have 6 guys instead of just 2. Shawn says Taker is the favorite for this one, saying they need to watch out for whatever Taker may have planned.
We get a replay of Foley and Taker in the Cell, with Foley emptying the thumbtacks and Taker using them against him.
Still got a ways to go before the Cell match though, so let's keep going.
Four Corners Tag Team Match for the WWF Tag Team Championship: Edge & Christian vs Bull Buchanan & The Goodfather of RTC (w/ Steven Richards) (c) vs K-Kwik (aka R-Truth) & Road Dogg vs Dudley Boyz
We see RTC trying to recruit the Dudleys, who had them fooled for a moment, before they turn on them and put Stevie through a table on this past week's Smackdown. Kwik and Rodie do some rapping before Dudleys make their entrance.
This is your standard Fatal 4-Way Tag Match, 2 men start, anyone can tag in and out and one fall to a finish. D-Von getting double teamed by the champs before Goodfather goes to the apron and a near fall.
D-Von eats a big boot before tagging in Goodfather. He goes for the... Well what used to be the Ho Train before Bubba comes in to help D-Von for another near fall. Road Dogg gets a blind tag on D-Von but Goodfather gets the offense in the corner, allowing Edge to get a blind tag on the Goodfather. E&C and start to fight Bubba and Roadie, before Bubba turns on Roadie, and E&C try a dual pin on them. Edge and Roadie are still the legal men as fans chant for tables.
Dogg tags in K-Kwik and hit a double team elbow drop, before Edge hits a forearm, followed by a side kick. Christian, pulls Kwik's arm down across the rope before Edge knocks him down. Edge tags out, Christian gets some offense in, then Edge tags back in for more offense.
Kwik tries to get back in it but Edge drops him with an armbar takedown for a near fall, as the table chants only get louder. Christian tags in and keeps up the offense, but Goodfather gets another blind tag in, continuing to work Kwik's arm and shoulder with an armbar, then a hammerlock. Goodfather tags Bull in and lifts him up high by the arm before dropping him down. Edge with a blind tag on Bull as he keeps going on the arm.
Edge climbs to the second rope for an axe handle but Kwik blocks and turns into a neckbreaker. Christian yanks Road Dogg off the apron before he can tag out, but Kwik tags Bubba in instead, who starts to make short work and clears the ring of everyone. Everyone's in and starts brawling with more tables chants. Kwik tries to dive onto RTC but eats a shoulderbreaker before Road Dogg does his own dive, eating a kick from Stevie.
Back in the ring, Edge eats a What's Up (or whatever that's called) before Dudleys go out to grab a table, much to the crowd;s excitement, using it to knock over RTC instead. Bubba lifts Edge up and they hit a clothesline off the top. Bubba goes for the but Christian pulls him out, hitting a 3D on Bull. Godfather eats a 3D next, then Christian eats a What's Up. D-Von goes back out to grab the table but Steve takes him out with a DDT. Edge hits a spear on Bubba for a close near fall. Christian hits an Unprettier and Edge gets the pinfall on Bubba in 9:43. We've got new Tag Team Champions. Won't lie it was hard to keep up this was pretty fast paced in the last half, but fun match to watch.
Cut to backstage with Steph talking to HHH, who's still worried about her husband, but he tells her that he isn't worried, that the WWF title is important to him and the Cell doesn't scare him. He says he's going to be champ again, and no one's gonna stop him.
Another highlight from HHH and Foley's Cell match, where HHH knocks Foley off the side through the announce table.
Intercontinental Championship: "The One" Billy Gun (c) vs Chris Benoit of the Radicalz
Billy gets some hip tosses in for a near fall, before tossing Benoit to the outside. Benoit goes to whip him into the post but Billy reverses it. He charges toward Benoit but sidesteps and sends him tumbling over the steps.
Benoit works the left knee as it appears Billy "hurt" it on the steps. Benoit goes for a shin breaker but he reverses into a sunset flip for another near fall, before Benoit drop kicks the knee for another near fall. Benoit goes back to the knee with a dragon screw followed by a figure 4 in the middle of the ring. There's a pin as Billy lays flat on the mat but he gets up before 3, as he manages to roll and reverse the pressure, who reaches for the rope and forces the break, but damage is clearly done on Billy's knee.
Billy manages to get some offense in and tries to charge Benoit in the corner but he moves, who proceeds to hit his three German Suplexes. Benoit goes up top and goes for his Diving Headbutt but Billy barely rolls out of the way, as the ref starts his count.
Billy lands some right hands and hits a nice powerslam off the rebound for another near fall.
Billy hits a Jackhammer but the knee clearly starts to buckle. He follows with a Fame Asser but can't capitalize in time, as Benoit kicks out at 2 and a half.
Billy goes for a cobra clutch but Benoit pulls him and traps him in a Crippler Crossface, but Billy gets his foot on the rope, forcing the break. Billy goes for a tilt-a-whirl back breaker, but it's botched, commentary covering it up by blaming it on the knee. They start to trade blows as Billy whips him into the corner, Benoit coming back with a clothesline and another near fall. A back suplex then another near fall by Benoit. Billy tries an inside cradle but Benoit kicks out. Benoit applies the Crossface again almost immediately forcing Billy to tap in 10:05, to crown a new IC Champion.
We cut to an interview from earlier in the day between J.R. and Austin. He asks how Austin can prepare since J.R.'s been thinking how the Cell affected HBK's and Foley's career. Austin says he didn't sleep at all, and knows what this match can do. Austin says its more motivation with HHH and Rikishi in the match, but also that he can't be distracted by revenge to win the title. He says he can't trust anyone, and anyone who trusts him is an idiot.
One more match before our main event.
Triple Threat Match for the WWF Women's Championship: Molly Holly vs Trish Stratus vs Ivory of RTC (c)
I forgot how Molly was brought in as the cousin of Crash and Hardcore until her music played. Molly goes after Trish with a series of biels, before Trish monkey flips Holly into a clothesline by Ivory. Trish and Ivory attempt a double team clothesline but Molly ducks and dropkicks. Molly tries an inside cradle on Trish but Ivory breaks it up. Ivory and Trish hit a double suplex on Molly, before Ivory attempts a pin, broken up by Trish. Molly hits a crossbody as they argue for a near fall. Molly dumps Ivory to the outside before hitting Trish with a sitout powerbomb. Ivory tosses Molly to the outside and pins Trish to retain the championship in 2:12. I forgot just how short the women's matches were back then for the most part.
Test and Albert come out and bully Molly as Ivory celebrates, Cash comes out to help Molly, and as T&A go after Crash, APA make their (apparent) return to help out, and Bradshaw hits a Clothesline from Hell on Albert to send them away.
We see a replay of Taker throwing Foley off the Cell 2 years ago, before cutting to Rock being interviewed by Kevin Kelly. He asks if Rock is prepared before being cut off for Rock to do his usual catchphrase. Cuts a great promo of having to get through 5 pissed off guys to win his 6th WWF title, and how he's gonna sweat and bleed tonight to get the win.
Time for our main event.
THE BUILD UP
Let's go back one year ago, Survivor Series '99. Austin gets run down by a mysterious driver, and is taken out by for almost a year. In the following months, we see HHH and Rock go back and forth with the WWF title, we see Kurt win his first WWF Championship at No Mercy, we learn that Rikishi was responsible for the hit and run, orchestrated by HHH. We've had Austin try and murder HHH by dropping him off a forklift. We've seen Undertaker chokeslam Angle off the stage. We've seen a combination of the 6 men screw each other out of title shots leading up to this show.
Foley decided that it would be a waste of time to do more contender's matches, as it would just lead to more interference and nothing getting done, so he announced that Taker, Rikishi, HHH, Rock and Austin would all get a title shot together, and to ensure there was a clear winner, and to settle things, he put them inside Hell in a Cell. Not to mention we have Vince trying to convinc them all not to go through with it, getting a Rock Bottom, Last Ride and Stunner for his troubles. A fantastic video package to build this up.
We've got several stories crossing paths here to culminate in one hellacious, barbaric match for the biggest prize in the company, so let's find out just who comes out on top and survives, shall we?
6-Man Hell in a Cell Match for the WWF Championship: Kurt Angle (c) vs Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock vs The Undertaker vs Triple H vs Rikishi
I have no idea how I'm gonna follow all this action. This gonna be hard to follow especially the first half with such a confined space and as many guys as we have. My coverage for the first half will be pretty limited for the time being so bare with me.
Commentary makes it clear that this is not Falls Count Anywhere rules, with victory going to the first man to gain pinfall or submission inside the ring.
Pre-match thoughts: I forgot just how short this Cell is compared to how the Cell looks these days. Also nice to hear Angle's theme without those stupid "You Suck" chants, gotta enjoy it while it lasts. I thought WWE replaced any use of "Rollin'" on the Network, yet here it is loud and clear, not that I'm complaining.
Angle avoids entering the Cell as Rikishi is anxious to get his hands on him. Multiple referees are in the ring trying to hold everyone back until the match officially begins.
Austin makes his way down and wastes no time going after Angle as he pulls him into the Cell, and the match officially begins.
Austin goes after HHH, Taker on Angle and 'Kish on Rock. They all start battling around the Cell, throwing each other into it, grinding faces into it. Taker and Angle make their way into the ring while Tim White locks the Cell. Hebner has the unfortunate duty of officiating this match. Taker already with a pin attempt on Angle but he kicks out.
'Kish makes his way in with the Rock as Austin tosses HHH face first into the Cell. Rock gets shots in on 'Kish before eating a kick but he soon takes the big man down.
Angle and Taker on the outside again, laying in kicks on Taker. HHH and Austin in the ring as Austin eats a facebuster, but catches HHH with a Lou Thesz Press, then a pin attempt but he kicks out.
Angle and Rock back in the ring, HHH hits Austin with a high knee, before he drags Austin to the post to work the knee, with an audible "Oh shit" from Austin. Rock lays into Kurt before dropping him with a Samoan Drop for another near fall.
Taker pulls Kurt out and goes back in the ring with him, then tosses him out the opposite side. HHH hits Austin with a suplex on the floor outside. 'Kish tosses Rock into the Cell before Angle hits him with a baseball slide, slamming his face into the steps.
We get a replay of Taker sending HHH into Austin for a clothesline that happened off camera, while Austin starts to rake HHH's face into the Cell walls. HHH has been busted open as Austin starts to open him up raking his face more into the Cell. 'Kish is choking Taker against the Cell as Austin starts to drag HHH's face all across the Cell wall, corner to corner, before rolling him into the ring. 'Kish drops a leg drop on the back of Austin's neck as he goes to roll in, before helping HHH up to his feet, before HHH drops him with a Pedigree, trying for a pin before Rock breaks it up. Rock lays into HHH before dropping a nice DDT into a pin, but Kurt breaks it up. Kurt hits Rock with an Angle Slam but Austin breaks it up, then drops him with a Stunner, but Taker breaks it up, and plants him with a Chokeslam, going for another pin but HHH breaks it up.
Taker lays into HHH tossing him back and forth into the Cell repeatedly, along with a lawn dart spot. Back in the ring, Austin and 'Kish are at it, dropping the big man with a clothesline. Austin knocks Taker to the outside as he comes in but 'Kish drops him with right hand, before eating a Lou Thesz Press.
This is where things take an interesting turn. All of a sudden, the camera pans to the entrance, where Vince and Stooges are backing a truck up to the Cell, and is audibly intending on tearing the Cell down. They rip the Cell door off, and is trying to tear the wall down before Mick's music interrupts and he comes down, while the action continues in the ring. All focus is on Vince's plan so I'm not sure what's going on match wise.
Foley blasts Vince for trying to put an end to things, before knocking the Stooges on their asses with right hands. He starts going after Vince, but instead he lets security take him away, leaving the truck at Cell-side as Mick leaves.
Back to the match, HHH has left the Cell with Austin close behind. Austin nails him from behind and knocks him down, slamming him face first into the hood of one of the cars twice. Austin takes the boom camera slams it into the knee of HHH, which gives is a nice shot off the replay.
The other 4 soon join them by entrance way while Austin pulls HHH back near the truck, but he pulls Austin face first through the window of the truck. Austin is busted open now. Rikishi has tosses Angle face first through one of the wrecking car windows now too. Rock attempts to Rock Bottom HHH on top of the car, but he stops him with a low blow, following with a Pedigree on the hood.
Lawler points out that Angle is bleeding by the back, while Rikishi tries to bask a barrel over Austin's head. Rock is busted open now, I guess from the Pedigree. Taker slams Kurt onto the hood of the car, HHH slams Taker and Angle into the side of a car, before getting catapulted by Austin into the windshield and hood of another. Austin tries to bash HHH's head in with a barrel but he just barely avoids it.
Taker and Angle have made their way over to the timekeeper's area, while Taker stabs Angle in the head with what appears to be a pen, before choking him with the cord. The other 4 start making their way back to the Cell, 'Kish sending Rock face first into the Cell. Kurt levels Taker with a chair to the head which busts him open. HHH scales the Cell from the truck side while Austin joins him, climbing from the opposite side, and Austin starts laying into him, clearly with the intent of knocking him off the side, but HHH sends some shots of his own and gets back to the middle. Now Kurt and Taker start climbing as Austin hits a Stunner on the roof of the Cell. Austin knocks Angle down as he's distracted by Taker and starts to lay into him. Commentary begin to speculate as to who Taker will "make famous" tonight, even suggesting Taker could go off the side. Angle's been busted open, it appears after having his head slammed into a support beam, while HHH starts to climb back down, Austin chasing after him. Now Rikishi starts his climb, while a ringside staff member takes several attempts to throw a chair up to Taker finally getting it up as he blasts Angle over the head with it. Rikishi takes the chair and starts to blast Taker and Angle with it, while Rock and Austin fight it out with HHH by the truck.
Angle slowly starts to make his way back down as Rikishi chases, Taker back up just as he does. He starts sending 'Kish near the edge of the Cell as the other 4 start to make their way back into the Cell. Taker gets knocked down with a headbutt as 'Kish pulls him back up, but Taker gets more shots in as he reels near the edge. And then finally, Taker grabs him by the throat and send him off the roof, into the back of the truck brought to Cell-side. Camera cuts to Austin and Rock in the Cell with shock on their faces, followed by several replays of what just happened.
Austin and Rock face to face, head to head trading blows, crowd goes nuts. Austin goes for a Stunner but eats a spinbuster instead. Taker is a bloody mess on top of the Cell as Rock goes for the People's Elbow but gets cut off by HHH as the elbow pad comes off.
HHH and Rock trade blows now and knocks HHH out of the ring. Angle eats a Rock Bottom followed by a pin attempt, but Austin breaks it up just in time.
Time for the finish. Austin and Rock are back up, but Rock eats a Stunner immediately. HHH grabs Austin as he goes for a cover, Austin goes for a Stunner but HHH counters into a neckbreaker, while Angle is just barely stirring on the mat. Angle crawls over, gets his hand on the Rock's chest, and the referee makes the there count, still your WWF Champion in 32:15. Holy shit what a chaotic match.
Angle is a mess as he manages to pull himself to his feet to celebrate, but Austin gets up too and delivers a Stunner. 'Kish hasn't moved an inch in that truck. Everyone is laid out as Austin's music hits, and we fade to black.
FINAL THOUGHTS AND AFTERMATH
What can I say about this PPV. Aside from maybe a couple matches that didn't go long enough this was a solid show. You had compelling matches, storylines, great action, and left you wanting more.
So where would we go from here? Well Mick would not follow through on his word of resigning, however after Linda has a nervous breakdown, Vince takes her control of the company and promptly fires Foley.
Austin would go on to win the Royal Rumble, face HHH at No Way Out in 3 Stages of Hell (and lose) and would have his infamou heel turn at Wrestlemania X-7 against the Rock, the latter of whom would win the WWF Title from Kurt at No Way Out.
HHH would get a title shot at the Rumble, get screwed by Austin, and attempted to screw Austin out of the Rumble to no luck. They'd have their blow off match at No Way Out, he'd feud with Taker going into Mania, and him and Austin would go on to form the Two Man Power Trip following Mania.
We've already covered most of what Rock does, but as a little cap off, he would get suspended by McMahon following Wrestlemania and wouldn't be seen for a few months until we've gotten into the WCW/ECW invasion.
For the life of me I have no idea what Rikishi did after this, beyond a face turn after saving Mick from a McMahon faction assault I believe.
As for Vince, he'd go on to have an affair with Trish right in front of a drugged up Linda, which would lead to Steph fighting Trish for her mother (and then for some reason aligning with her father?). Vince and Shane would go on to have a great Street Fight at Wrestlemania with Foley acting as special ref, Linda would rise up (literally) and her and Shane would have their vengeance,,. Then of course, the Invasion angle would come soon after.
If you're looking for a PPV to watch with a bit of everything I would recommend going back to watch this PPV.
