WWE No Way Out 2003

Now onto something a bit different in terms of significance. Last review I did was just your run of the mill, classic PPV, but this time it's a bit more significant. This PPV features two key moments: Steve Austin, after walking out on the company in June of 2002, was making his first on-screen appearance with the company, more on that and the storyline re-introduction of Austin later on. This would also see the Wrestlemania X8 rematch between Rock and Hogan, with heel/face roles reversed, I'll get into the story there, as well as where these two matches among other would lead to going towards Wrestlemania XIX. So let's get this show rolling.

We're live from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada tonight. Doing commentary for Raw will be the Coach and Jerry "the King" Lawler. J.R. is absent for the time being after suffering a concussion on Raw this past Monday, a little more on that later. And we get right into a match.

Chris Jericho vs Jeff Hardy
At Jericho's request, Shawn Michaels has been banned from ringside for this match. Coach mentions that this is the first PPV from Montreal since the Screwjob in 197. I'm sure that won't play into anything. It appears the build to this comes from Hardy and Michaels earning a victory over Jericho and Christian on that past Monday's Raw, so here we go.
We get some decent chain wrestling to start, until Jericho slaps Hardy, firing him up and getting the early advantage. Taking down Jericho with a nice headscissor before taking him to the corner. Jericho counters a whip into the ropes with a clothesline.
Back body drop by Jericho, with a mix of Y2J chants and boos. Back in the corner, Jericho lands a couple of chops to Jeff's chest along with some trash talk, before whipping him into the opposite corner, Jericho flying over the ropes as he launches at Jeff. Jeff follows out with a springboard somersault. Rolling Jericho in he hits a springboard moonsault for a near fall.
Jericho whipped into the ropes, he holds on and rolls out before eating a baseball slide. Hardy slides out to run along the barricade, Jericho ducks and lifts up, dropping him face first on the steps before they go back in the ring.
A stalling suplex on Jericho as he taunts the crowd. Looks like  Jeff's facepaint as has wiped off on Jericho's face. He goes to slam Jeff but counters with an inside cradle for a 2 count, before Jericho hits a dropkick. Rest hold on Jeff, he gets the crowd going and gets back, and is about to rebound off the ropes but Chris grabs the hair and he falls flat to his back.
Back in the corner and more chops by Chris, whipped into the oter corner, and Jericho hits the post shoulder first as he runs towards Jeff. Jeff with rights as they go off the ropes with a flying forearm. Jeff hits what looks like a Codebreaker off the ropes for a two count. Jericho follows with an enziguri with another pin attempt, kick out at 2. Jeff whipped into the corner again and followed with a bulldog. Jericho goes for a Lionsault but Jeff gets the knees up, followed by a DDT and another near fall.
Jeff hits Whisper in the Wind but another near fall. Jeff kicks Chris in the gut a couple times and goes for a third, but Chris gets him in the Walls of Jericho. Jeff manages to make it to the ropes and forces a break.
Jeff launches Jericho onto the apron, he fights off Jeff and climbs up top, but hip tosses him off the top. Jeff up top no and connects with a Swanton Bomb, but Chris gets his foot on the bottom rope in time.
Chris goes for the Walls again but Jeff rolls him up for another 2 count. Chris gets whipped toward the corner, he tries to springboard off the middle rope but eats a dropkick. Jericho eats a Reverse Twist of Fate, but dodges a second Swanton, followed by a Lionsault but Jeff still kicks out.
Chris stomps at his head in frustration, picks him up and Jeff gets another roll up for a near fall. Jericho with a rear naked choke drop (?) and tries to use the ropes for leverage but Jeff kicks out.
Jericho goes up top but Jeff follows him up, and goes for a hurricanrana but Jericho counters with a powerbomb into a Walls of Jericho, doing his best to fight and reach for the ropes but Chris pulls him back to the center, forcing Jeff to tap in 13 minutes. Nice opening match to start the show.

Chris refuses to release the hold before Shawn runs down to make the save, to a mix of boos and cheers from the crowd. Christian comes out for the double team while Jeff is still recovering. Shawn counters a double team into a double DDT, then connects with some Sweet Chin Music on Christian as his music hits.

Cut backstage to Kurt giving Team Angle a pep talk for their match tonight. He says Canada might say that they suck, but Canadians who want to be French suck. They begin planning for their match tonight.

Cut to a limosine arriving at the arena and out comes Evolution. Camera pans to see Stone Cold's truck parked right behind.

Time for our first title match of the night.

World Tag Team Championship: Rob Van Dam & Kane vs William Regal & Lance Storm (c)
Coach for whatever reason says Rob made his debut against Goldust at last year's No Way Out, completely ignoring the Invasion angle for whatever reason.
Storm and RVD start out the match with some chain wrestling, RVD get the upperhand. Regal soon tags in for more chain wrestling, whipping Rob into the corer followed by a spinning heel kick. Split legged moonsault in the corner for a two count. Kane tags in off a monkey flip, another near fall for Kane now.
Regal comes off the rope but gets caught in a slam by Kane. Looks like Regal hit the back of his head on the mat off the slam and got knocked silly, Kane covered and Storm had to break it up, and Storm soon gets in as Regal goes to recover. Kane lifts Storm up in a press slam before getting him back in the corner, some shots before following with a clothesline for another near fall.
Kane carries Storm to his corner for a tag, then a powersla. Rob goes for rolling thunder but Regal pulls him out, before Rob hits a plancha on the outside. Rolls Storm back in with a springboard leg drop to the back of the neck for a near fall.
Regal tags back in as Rob fights the champs off, Rob comes out of the corner with a kick and goes for the top rope, but Storm pushes him off to the outside and onto the ring apron. Storm rolls him back in and Regal takes Rob down with a nasty looking suplex. Storm tags in and he continues the assault with a pin attempt and another near fall.
Takes Rob to the corner with right hands and choking, hits a nice dropkick as Rob comes off the ropes for another near fall. Regal tags in with some stomps and tries a series of pins to no avail, goes for another suplex but Rob gets a sunset flip, but Regal tags out before he falls back, Storm coming in with a DDT and another near fall.
Leg drop by Lance and another near fall, right into a rest hold. Robs get them up, Storm goes for a suplex but Rob gets a roll up for a near fall, Storm tagging out as he kicks out. Rob tries to tag out but Regal stops him, and Storm pulls Kane off the apron. Rob manages to fight Regal off and finally tag out, coming in with a clothesline on Regal.
Kane starts a good offense on both men, cleaning house, following with a sidewalk slam on Regal and a pin attempt but Storm breaks it up. He attempts a chokeslam on Regal but Storm jumps on his back and tries to take his mask off, managing to block his view. Rob gets a (literal) blind tag and comes off the rope to kick Regal. Storm pushes Rob into Kane, who thinks it's Regal or Storm attacking him, and delivers a chokeslam to Van Dam, giving Regal the opportunity to pin Rob as Storm sends Kane out of the ring to retain the titles in 15:16.

Kane comes to realize what happened as Regal and Storm leave the ring. Rob walked off obviously annoyed.

Cut to backstage with Matt Hardy and Shannon Moore with Josh Matthews backstage. He talks up Mattitude as he runs in Jeff backstage, saying if he followed Mattitude he wouldn't lose all his matches, Jeff proceeding to slap Matt across the face. Onto another title match.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Billy Kidman (c) vs Matt Hardy V1 (w/ Shannon Moore)
Michael Cole and Tazz are on commentary for Smackdown's first appearance on this show. Matt hits a hip toss before gloating with some jumping jacks. Commentary point out that Matt isn't really a cruiserweight and just barely made weight for this match. Kidman with a couple arm drags, off the ropes and takes Matt down with a head scissors. Reversing hip tosses back and forth as Matt tosses Kidman onto the apron, before Matt tosses him back first into the ring post.
Matt rolls Kidman onto the edge of the apron and delivers a few elbows to the face before going back in the apron before a near fall. Following with an elbow and a leg drop before another near fall. Matt slams Kidman to the mat again for another near fall.
Kidman gets some shots in and throws Matt into the ropes, who follows with a neckbreaker and a near fall. Matt gets a straightjacket hold on Kidman for a rest hold spot, Kidman pulls himself back up but Matt whips him into the rope again, slips through the legs, Matt attempts a Side Effect but Kidman counters with a Victory Roll for another near fall. Matt up with another neckbreaker and a near fall.
Matt uses the ropes to work Kidman's back before charging and dropping the leg across the back and neck of Kidman, another pin attempt with rope leverage and another near fall. Front facelock by Matt for another front facelock. Commentary is full of innuendo, nut oil, BJ (banana juice), MFer (Mattitude Follower). Kidman pulls himself up with some knees to the ribs, pulls Matt into a sleeper, Matt lifts him for a back suplex and turns into an elbox drop for another near fall. Matt tries for a Single Leg Crab but Kidman jumps up as Matt goes to turn and hits an enziguri. Both men are down as the ref starts a 10 count.
Both men start to trade shots before Kidman hits a series of clothesline before hitting a Baldo Bomb of sorts for a near fall. Matt drops Kidman with a clothesline again, goes to the middle rope and hits a leg drop for another near fall. Matt goes for a Twist of Fate but Kidman escapes and knocks Matt out of the ring with a dropkick, following with a plancha to the outside on Matt. Rolling Matt back in as Kidman climbs to the top rope, Matt with a kick to the gut but Kidman goes for a jacknife pin and a kick out. Shannon on the apron with a distraction for Matt to follow with a Side Effect for a near fall. Kidman hits a bulldog off the corner ropes, kicking Shannon while he's at it. Kidman climbs back to the top ready for a Shooting Star Press but Matt rolls out of the way in time, Matt follows with a Twist of Fate but Kidman kicks out at 2.
Matt frustrated with blows to the side of the head, before lifting him to the top rope, Matt seemingly attempting a Twist of Fate from the top, Shannon grabbing the leg as Matt distracts the ref Matt takes advantage with a Twist of Fate off the top, and we get a new Cruiserweight Champion in 9:32.

Matt and Shannon celebrate but we soon cut backstage, where Edge has been laid out, Benoit and Lesnar with officials checking on Edge. Seemingly Team Angle took him out so we'll see what happens later. On to our next match.

We get a hype package for Big Show vs Taker. It started when Show threw Taker off the stage at Smackdown, and Taker would be out for three months before coming back at the Rumble. Obviously Taker wants to get his hands on Big Show, and we get weird messages in the build up, including appearances by Brian Kendrick as a messenger, Taker's former manager Brother Love, Chris Kanyon trying to make an apology on behalf of Show, and even a puppy, before Show sneak  attacks.

Let's get to this match.

The Undertaker vs The Big Show (w/ Paul Heyman)
Taker's Limp Bizkit theme has been replaced on this one, which still makes me wonder why it wasn't edited out for Armageddon 2000, but whatever. Taker waits no time as he exits the ring with right hands for Big Show, knocking him against the announce table before sliding back in, waiting for Show as the match starts. It's weird calling Cole call Taker the big dog when he's constantly calling Roman Reigns that these days. Taker tries to dive onto Show from the apron, but Show catches him, slams him into the post then whips him into the barricade, before rolling him back in the ring.
Taker hits a dropkick as Show rolls in, laying Show on the apron as Taker hits a couple elbows then his leg drop. Taker grabs a chair from ringside even though this isn't no DQ. Taker throws the ref aside and Show punches the chair back in Taker's face, before whipping him into the corner and choking him with his boot. Whipped into the opposite corner as Taker gets his boots up, following with some right hands and a kick to the midsection, now getting whipped into the corner again, tries to pick Show up but Taker falls on top for a near fall. Show works the lower back with punches and shoulder rams in the corner, then a suplex, followed by a near fall. A series of elbow drops. Commentary updates us that Edge has been taken to a medical facility so it appears he's out of the match later tonight. Show with another near fall.
Taker throws right and lefts into Show's midsection, charging him in the corner but Show catches him in a bearhug, continuing to work the back. Taker manages to break out with some right hands, following with several blows to the head, tries to come off the ropes but eats a Sidewalk Slam for another near fall. More punches from Show before tossing Taker to the outside. Taker rolls back and Show follows with headbutts. Taker's been busted open as Show sends a blow to the head. More headbutts and punches but Show comes back with a punch of his own off the ropes. More punches by Taker, kicks and punches in the corner. Running clothesline in the corner, then another and Taker goes for a Chokeslam but can't lift him up, then another headbutt. Taker knocks Show down with a clothesline off the ropes, then a near fall. Taker connect with Old School and Taker goes for Chokeslam again, then Show goes for a Chokeslam, knocks the ref down and Taker hits a low blow followed by a big DDT for another near fall.
Taker calls for a Last Ride but not a chance, shoves Taker into the ropes and hits a spinebuster for another near fall. Another whip into the corner as Show hits Taker with Snake Eyes, followed by a clothesline and another near fall.
Show yells at him to stay down, lifts him for... something but Taker counters into a Dragon Sleeper before Heyman interferes and distracts the ref. A-Train appears out of nowhere, and Taker launches over the ropes landing on A-Train and Heyman. Taker calls for the end, grabbing Show and pulls him up but Show hits the Chokeslam, hooking the leg but Taker pulls him into a Triangle Choke. Show is out cold and the ref calls for the bell. Taker wins by submission in 14:11. Lot of this match was punches and headbutts and strikes, not the most exciting match and felt like it went a bit long.

Taker leaves the ring and grabs the chair from earlier, but A-Train comes in with a Derailer before he can do anything. Heyman and Train help Show out of the ring and to the back as A-Train's music hits.

We go to cameras following Edge being loaded into the ambulence during the previous match, then cut to Bischoff preparing in his office with Chief Morely (Val Venis). People are ready to help Bischoff back and they start brainstorming match stips before Vince walks in. Vince says he was impressed with Eric's karate skills, so he says if anyone interferes in this match they will be fired on the spot. He wishes Bischoff luck before leaving.

Coach and Lawler are giddy hearing this. They turn it back to Smackdown for our next match.

Two-on-Three Handicap Match: Team Angle (Kurt Angle, Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin) (w/ Paul Heyman) vs Brock Lesnar & Chris Benoit
Lesnar and Benoit have apparently decided to go this without a new partner, despite being given the option from GM Stephanie.
Shelton and Benoit start this one out, Shelton pushes Benoit into the to corner off a tie up before some nice back and forth. Benoit drops Shelton with a shoulder before whipping him into the corner, taking the advantage. Shelton gets some blows in and takes Benoit to the corner to tag Haas.
He gets whipped into the corner to follow up with a back body drop. Throwing Haas into his corner to tag in Brock. Brock gets some quick, hard offense in the corner before hitting a suplex. More clubs to the back before throwing him halfway across the ring. Lesnar wants Kurt but he backs off the apron, giving Haas the chance to capitalize but eats a press slam, then Shelton gets on. Angle tries a sneak attack but Lesnar catches him in time before Kurt retreats.
More clubs in the corner by Brock as he goes to whip Haas off the ropes, countered into a whip of his own, and Angle catches Lesnar in a headlock against the ropes, Lesnar pulls him in the ring, Benoit jumps in and distracts the ref, allowing Shelton to knock Brock down with a nice side kick.
Angle tagged in for another headlock on Brock, Lesnar power out of it back to his feet and charges Kurt in the corner but Kurt holds on as Brock drops to the mat, Kurt adding a scissor to hold on tight.
Brock manages to break the scissor as he slowly gets back to his feet, with Angle on his back, clearly worn down, running into the corner as he rams Kurt head first into the top turnbuckle. Benoit and Shelton tag in as he works on him and Haas, pairs of suplex for the two of them and Angle, followed by rolling Germans by Shelton. Benoit calls for the headbutt but Haas grabs the foot, allowing Kurt to hit a belly to belly from the top, Lesnar catches him in a headlock from the apron as he pulls down the straps, but gets knocked off by Shelton.
Shelton is on the offense no working the arm, Haas tags in ad whips Benoit to the corner, following with his overhead belly to belly for a two count. Kurt tags in and continues the offense on Benoit. Kurt distracts the ref while Haas gets some clubs to the back of Benoit on the apron. Another headlock by Kurt off a snapmare. Benoit pulls them both up and gets himself free, follows with some roll ups and near falls, referee with some fast counts. Kurt hits a German, taunts Brock and another near fall.
Kurt tags in Haas who hits a slam, then knocks Brock off the apron,, with a leap frog double team on Benoit as Shelton tags in for another near fall. Benoit lands a series of chops before a drop toe hold as Benoit tries to tag out, Shelton holding onto the leg tight, finally kicks him off and tags in Lesnar, while Shelton tags in Haas. Brock clears house with suplexes, Angle goes for an Angle Slam and tries an F-5 but Shelton saves him, Benoit tags in and takes out Haas but Kurt comes in,, trading Crossfaces and Ankle Locks with Benoit, before Haas and Benjamin interrupt. Benoit gets Haas in a Cross face, Shelton tries to break it up but Brock tosses him out. Lesnar hits an F-5 on Kurt as Haas taps, Lesnar and Benoit get the victory in 13:18. Action gets super fast paced near the end, did my best to catch everything, but not a bad match.

We go to replays of the finish, before Lesnar hoists Angle
s championship over his shoulder.

Now onto a shit show. We go to a video package for HHH and Steiner. We see Steiner neat HHH at the Rumble by DQ, and again another PPV, maybe a UK one? I don't know. Steiner asks for a rematch for Raw one night with taped ribs, and HHH pulls out a doctor's note saying he's isn't cleared, so Steiner gets Batista instead with Orton and Flair and HHH interference, who all beat down Steiner for our proper introduction to Evolution. Steiner would go on to beat Chris Jericho to earn this title match on Raw with a top rope fallaway slam. More highlights played to tonight's theme song.

On to... whatever this is.

World Heavyweight Championship: Scott Steiner vs Triple H (c)  (w/ Ric Flair)
We get "You screwed Bret" chants as Hebner officiates this match. Steiner wrenching and working the left arm to start. HHH takes him to the corner with some punches, but Steiner kicks the inside of HHH's taped left leg. Steiner works the leg in the corner, HHH counters with punches, Steiner back with clubs and punches and chops before starting a 10 punch. HHH with an atomic drop and Steiner with a clothesline and a near fall, followed by push ups from Steiner. Crowd is fully behind HHH in this one.
Steiner starts ripping away the taping around HHH's leg while working it some more.
Steiner spends a few good minutes working the leg before a suplex. Crowd is not into Steiner at all despite being the face in this match. Steiner locks in a figure 4 on HHH, with a couple pins as HHH's shoulders go down, Ric sliding in to rake the eyes as Hebner's back is turned. Steiner races after Ric and knocks him on his ass on the outside before climbing to the apron, only to be knocked off by HHH face first onto the steps.
More "You Screwed Bret" chants as Steiner slides back in the ring, HHH selling the leg as he limps, referee holds him back while Flair chokes Steiner with his jacket. HHH sends Steiner into the steps once more before throwing him back in the ring. Follows with a neckbreaker and a near fall.
Boring chants (I think) as HHH gets Steiner in the corner and they trade punches, Steiner goes for a clothesline but HHH hits another neckbreaker for a near fall.
Back in the corner, HHH rams his shoulder into the ribs of Steiner, more trading shots, Steiner off the ropes and reversed by HHH into a kick, Steiner tosses HHH with an overhead belly to belly.
Steiner with chops and clubs in the corner, whipped into the opposite corner but HHH gets the boots up, trying a roll up with feet on the rope but Hebner catches him. HHH pushes him and is about to be DQ'd, and does it again but Hebner says he'll have to fight Steiner, knowing he's trying to get DQ'd intentionally.
Steiner takes advantage with more chops and clubs, another whip to the opposite corner reversed by HHH, but pulled into another belly to belly slam for a near fall.
Kicks and punches in the corner by Steiner, tries to whip HHH again, kicking him in the leg to toss him over the ropes to the outside. Flair taunts Steiner before tossing HHH leg first into the steps.
More punches as HHH lays on the mat,, another overhead belly to belly and a near fall. Steiner hoists HHH on the top rope, landing a fallaway slam from the middle rope, a pin attempt but Ric pulls Steiner off before the 3.
Steiner goes for the Recliner but Ric calls out Orton, then Batista, Steiner quickly dispatching of both, then Rich climbs onto the apron for a distraction, HHH attempting a Pedigree but gets knocked out. Orton up top before being tossed off by Orton, out onto Batista. Hebner gets distracted tossing Flair and co. from ringside, but HHH comes up behind with the title belt and nails Steiner, but he kicks out before the 3.
HHH hits a Pedigree for the three, and retains the WHC in 13:20. Yeah this match is as exciting as it sounds, I'd just skip this one altogether.

HHH is helped to the back by Evolution as they celebrate up the ramp, while Steiner recovers in the ring. The crowd is happy that this one is over.

We cut backstage to Bischoff walking backstage, as well as a viewing area for the Raw locker room.

Austin vs Bischoff is next.

THE BUILD UP
Back in June of the previous year, Austin decided to walk out on the company, for various reasons. Most should know about this at this point, but if you don't you can find answers online. Nonetheless, skip to a few weeks prior to this PPV. Vince arrives at Raw and tells Bischoff that he's been disappointed by his work, and that he needs to shake Raw up in 30 days. Bischoff's solution Bring back Stone Cold Steve Austin. What follows is weeks of Eric searching for Austin in Texas, and coercing J.R. to help him, and just as Eric's job is about to be taken, it's announced that Austin has agreed to return and would do so at No Way Out.
Bischoff at which point was nearly forced to kiss Vince's as in order to keep his job, but instead Vince books Austin vs Bischoff for this PPV.
Now I said at the beginning of this review that this would be Austin's first on screen appearance before walking out, but Austin would make a surprise appearance in the dark segment following this announcement, delivering a Stunner to Morley and Jericho.
We also see Bischoff and J.R. having a No DQ match on RAW, in which Eric breaks a cinderblock over J.R.'s head, which is why he's been absent from this show.

Time for the moment we've been waiting for.

Eric Bischoff vs Stone Cold Steve Austin
Before we get to introductions, J.R.'s music hits and he decides to join commentary to see Eric get his ass kicked up close and personal.
Huge pop for Austin as he comes out in jean shorts instead of his traditional black trunks. As you can imagine there's not much to this match. Eric does rake the eyes and gets a kick in but it does him no good. He also tries to escape through the crowd, but Austin catches him with chops to the chest and even throws a drink in his face. Otherwise though, Austin does his trademark corner stomps, the Lou Thesz Press, and three Stunners, all while Austin toys with him the entire time. This match is exactly what it should have been and nothing more and fun to watch. Austin wins in 4:25.

The Raw locker room celebrates backstage as Austin celebrates in the ring as the crowd goes nuts. Austin gives another Stunner as J.R. goes crazy on commentary for Austin. Austin heads up the ramp as the ref checks on Bischoff. Austin runs back down to pose one more before heading back up the ramp again.

Time for our main event.

THE BUILD UP
One year earlier, Rock and Hogan had a classic at Wrestlemania X8, Rock as the babyface and Hogan the heel as Hollywood Hogan, with Rock picking up the victor. Vince has become intent on killing Hulkamania and books Hogan vs Rock II for No Way Out. Hogan calls him a "Rockajabroni" and Rock says he was nothing before he made Hogan popular again. Rock does some pretty good impressions of Hogan's manerisms before Rock offers a handshake, only to spit in his face on the go home show.

Here we go, it's time.

The Rock vs Hulk Hogan II
God that dubbed in music for Hogan is horrible. It's not even a good Voodoo Child ripoff. Sylvain Grenier (yes, the Sylvain Grenier from La Resistance) officiates this match.
Rock stalls outside the ring before the match start for a good couple minutes before finally sliding in as Hogan's back is turned, Hogan sending punches Rock's way as the bell is rung.
Rock off the ropes and Hogan goes for the boot already but Rock slides back out. Rock waits out the count but Hogan finally goes after Rock, following Rock back in the ring but gets caught with stomps to the back, knocking Hogan down with right hands and another as he's grounded. Rock takes Hulk to the corner and goes to slam him face first into the buckle, but Hogan blocks and sends Rock 10 times into it instead, before knocking him out of the ring with a Rock-like right hand.
Hulk goes to pull Hogan in but Rock pulls him down throat first across the top rope. Rock is already going for the Rock Bottom and hits it, for a near fall.
Rock slips Hogan's bandana and takes his belt off, laying into Hogan with several slaps across the back. Rock asks for water and Hogan knocks him down with a clothesline, before returning the favor with the belt. Hogan sends Rock into the ropes and goes for a clothesline but Rock counters with a DDT and a kip up.
More stomps to the back, pulls Hogan to the center and locks in the Sharpshooter. Hogan makes it to the ropes, but Rock pulls him back to center. Hogan starts to pass out as Sylvain starts raising the arm, but Hogan powers out and tosses Rock out of the ring.
Hogan is limping outside of the ring as Rock levels him with a clothesline. Bouncing Hogan's head off the announce table before Rock grabs a chair, swinging it towards Hogan but the chair bounces off the post. Hogan uses the chair and smacks Rock across the back. Hogan goes to use it in the ring again, but Sylvain pulls the chair away, Rock hitting a low blow as the ref's back is turned.
Rock hits a spinebuster and connects with the People's Elbow, then a second, followed by another near fall, Hogan hulks up immediately after. Rock lays in rights as Hogan continues hulking up and does his usual schtick, connects with the Big Boot and his signature Leg Drop.
Now for the finish. Hogan goes for the pin fall, and all of a sudden the lights go out in the arena. Lights come back on referee is down and Rock is still down and a chair has suddenly appeared in the ring again. Vince appears on the stage acting confused and begins walking down, to "You screwed Bret" chants. Hogan gets distracted as he confronts Vince, who admits to shutting the lights off.
Sylvain, who it turns out was playing possum, slides the chair over to the Rock, who nails Hogan in the face busting him wide open. Ref goes back to playing dead, Hogan slowly stands up as Rock hits another Rock Bottom, Sylvain springs to life and makes the 3 count, Rock picking up the victory in 12:36. Not as good as their first match, but this was obviously to set up for future plans and did it's job. Although it does use the now overplayed Screwjob booking to do it.

Vince slides in the ring as him, Rock and Sylvain celebrate. Rock and Sylvain walk back up as Vince sticks around, sliding in the ring to push Hogan back down as he tries to stand. Vince removws his suit to reveal a mock shirt, mocking Hogan's playing to the crowd, and rips off the t-shirt, tossing it in Hogan's face as his music plays. Vince walks back up the ramp as Hogan looks on pissed and Vince proud of himself, before fading to black.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Aside from some hiccups, PPV was pretty solid. The last PPV before Wrestlemania XIX would set up two big matches.
Bischoff, in his quest for revenge on Austin, would bring Rock over to Raw, which would set up Rock/Austin III for Wrestlemania XIX, marking Austin's final wrestling match. Rock would only stick around another month to put over Goldberg at Backlash, before essentially having his own retirement. Austin would return a few months later to be the co-General Manager alongside Bischoff, and would stick around as an authority figure until Wrestlemania XX.
Hogan and Vince would go on to have a Street Fight, billed as 20 years in the making, featuring the return of the Hot Rod. Hogan would have the ridiculous Mr. America gimmick, have a match with Piper at Judgement Day, and I don't think he stuck around much longer after that.
